Apunipima represents 17 Cape York communities, providing culturally appropriate, community controlled comprehensive primary health care and advocacy services to 11 communities and advocacy services only to the six Northern Peninsula Area communities.
Apunipima has an AGPAL accredited clinic in Mossman Gorge community, a Mums n Bubs clinic in Kowanyama and offices in Coen, Mapoon and Cooktown.
Mossman Gorge Clinic is the only community controlled clinic on Cape York and was the 2013 winner of the AGPAL Rural and Remote Practice of the Year Award.
Apunipima plans to build a community controlled primary health care centre in each of the communities. The next phase of infrastructure development will see clinics built in Kowanyama, Mapoon and Napranum.
Apunipima’s strategic objectives include the creation and coordination of community controlled clinics in all Cape York communities.
Our objectives also include fostering a community based workforce in order to achieve our target of 50% of our workforce being based in community by 2018.
Once these objectives are achieved Apunipima will examine the feasibility of extending primary health care services to the Northern Peninsula Area communities.
