Health Checks

The best action you can take for your health is to have an annual health check. A doctor, nurse or health worker will conduct your health check. The appointment takes around 45 minutes. The doctor, nurse or health worker will make sure you feel comfortable and at ease.

The doctor, nurse or health worker will check your:

  • Height
  • Weight
  • BMI (Body Mass Index)
  • Blood Pressure
  • Pulse
  • BSL (Blood Sugar Level)
  • Urine and blood
  • Vision and Hearing
  • Teeth
  • Skin

Some health checks also include:

  • Pap smears
  • Breast examination
  • STI check

We will also have a general health discussion. It might include family, your health goals, social and emotional issues, fertility and pregnancy, contraception and menopause.

Breast Screens/ Pap Smears/Health Screens

These services are offered by a health practitioner of your choice to screen for preventable diseases which can affect women's health.

Your local health worker is there to:

  • Reassure you and provide practical support
  • Book your screening appointment,
  • Attend your appointment with you (in some cases).
  • If you are worried about your screen, your health worker can go with you to receive the results

Reproductive Sexual Health

Your health worker, nurse or doctor can talk to you about:

  • Contraception
  • Pre-pregnancy planning
  • Pregnancy testing and counselling
  • Information and help with infertility problems
  • Information and help with sexual difficulties
  • Women's Business
  • Information on males and female sexual health checks

Women’s Group

Your local Women’s Group provides a safe and welcoming environment for women to talk and interact about a variety of topics that are of interest to you and the women in your community.

If your community does not have a women’s group talk to your local health worker about starting one. There may be other women who would enjoy the chance to meet regularly too.
