Today we launch our social marketing campaign to reduce sugary drink consumption and promote water as the drink of choice in the Cape. We know the health problems associated with sugary drink consumption affect people right across the country so we want your help to get our #SugaryDrinksProperNoGood message out across Australia, and the world!
Australians are big consumers of sugary drinks. In 2006, Australia was among the top 10 countries for per capita consumption of soft drinks. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience a disproportionate burden of chronic disease compared to other Australians.
It is well established that regular consumption of sugary drinks is a key contributing factor in development of tooth decay, overweight and obesity, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease for both young people and adults.
How can you help?
Let’s storm Twitter on Thursday 2 November from 11.30am to 12.30pm AEST. For you non-Queenslanders that’s 12.30pm to 1.30pm!
It’s super simple:
- Download our Communications Kit containing sample Twitter posts
- Pick your favourite, use one of the attached images, and tweet it! (don’t forget to use the hash tag #SugaryDrinksProperNoGood)
- Sit back and feel good that you have supported the call to reduce sugary drink consumption.
- Repeat. Same hashtag, different tweet (we need about 200 tweets an hour to get #SugaryDrinksProperNoGood trending – we know we can do it together!)
Don’t do Twitter? We also have Facebook posts, videos and posters that you can use to help support this important message.
Please join us to reduce sugary drink consumption and promote water as the drink of choice across the nation.
Please share this with your networks!
