Apunipima, Bamanga Bubu and Cape York Partnerships joined forces to sponsor the recent visit to Mossman Gorge by the Scottish Rugby League team.
The Scottish team were in Cairns for the 2017 Rugby World Cup and took some time out of their busy training schedule to do have some footy fun with the kids at the Mossman football oval.
It was a great opportunity for the team from Apunipima to showcase the social marketing campaigns, “What’s Your Story, Cape York?” and ‘Sugary Drinks Proper No Good – Drink More Water Youfla.’
Jessie Dau, Steve Brumby and Rita Francis from the Tackling Indigenous Smoking team, yarned to the community about the harms of smoking and the benefits of quitting.
Healthy Communities Project Officer, Tiffany Williams, got the kids involved in activities that strengthen the message that sugary drinks are no good for your health and that water is the best drink for everyone.
“It was a fun afternoon with a strong community feel.” Tiffany said.
The Scottish team also got the opportunity to tour the national park and take a swim in the gorge.
