Our GPs offer the same types of services you’d expect in any other part of Australia, with the advantage of having a health worker or practitioner to help guide care and treatment in your community, and to help with any follow up care.

What Services do GPs offer?

Going to the GP (doctor) is a part of life for all of us, and is an important part of taking care of your health, and the health of those you care for. Typically, if you visit the doctor at Apunipima, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health worker or practitioner will see you first for some health assessments or to provide information, and they’ll be there to help guide you through your visit. You’ll have someone there who understands you, and they can help you communicate with the doctor and help raise any concerns you have with your health.

Why see the GP at Apunipima?

Culturally safe care

Health worker led care means you’ll have a person there who understands you to help guide you through your visit and help manage your health alongside the GP.

Covered by Medicare

All Apunipima services are bulk-billed which means no out of pocket expenses for any services offered at an Apunipima clinic, so long as the person receiving care holds a valid Medicare Card.

Community-controlled

Apunipima is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO), with health services in each of our Cape York communities developed in consultation with Health Action Teams and members in each community.

Accredited practice

All Apunipima clinics are accredited against the RACGP standards, demonstrating our commitment to safety and quality for all who visit our clinics.
