Helping Communities Connect to Services
Apunipima’s Aftercare Support Program offers suicide prevention strategies and culturally sensitive, holistic aftercare services to Cape York communities. In times of an attempt or loss from suicide, Apunipima’s Aftercare Support Connectors are there to help those in need connect to the right services for them.
Through connection to appropriate services, ongoing engagement, and crisis support, we aim to walk alongside our people during difficult times—helping to restore hope, healing, and wellbeing.
If you or someone you know needs support, we’re here to help.
Connecting across Cape York
The Aftercare Support Program is delivered by Apunipima in all 11 Cape York Communities
Co-designing responses with Community
Apunipima’s Aftercare Program is part of NACCHO’s national Culture Care Connect initiative, supporting suicide prevention and postvention across Cape York communities.
A key component if this is the co-design of suicide prevention and postvention strategies, and mapping available services in each of the four identified Cape York communities. This work is ongoing, and aims to improve suicide prevention in Kowanyama, Lockhart River, Mapoon and Napranum, improve community responses to crisis, and improve service and support availability for those in need.
