Supporting Our Communities
Apunipima offers free, confidential support for people and families in Cape York who may be struggling with addiction to alcohol or other drugs. We offer support through our four (4) Wellbeing Centres, and through visiting outreach programs focusing on these issues.
Accessing our services is easy; either call or dop into one of our Wellbeing Centres, or have a yarn with one of our support team when they’re visiting your community.
Key initiatives
Alcohol & Other Drugs
Apunipima offers an Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) support program across Laura, Hope Vale, Cooktown and Wujal Wujal. Our qualified and skilled counsellors offer culturally safe support to individuals, families and their friends while seeking help.
Breakthrough for Families
Breakthrough for Families (BFF) is a community-based program that provides information, education, and compassionate support to Cape York families and loved ones of individuals struggling with addiction – particularly with methamphetamine (Ice) and other drugs.
Delivered by Apunipima Cape York Health Council’s Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) team, BFF works in the Cape York region to help empower families with knowledge, coping strategies, and culturally safe care as they navigate the challenges of substance abuse in their communities. The program is informative, supportive, and culturally respectful, aiming to make families feel safe and supported while seeking help.
