Child Protection Week 5th – 11th September 2021.

“Child Protection is Everybody’s Business” – Child and Youth have a voice.

This event came about from a workshop held earlier in the year around Child Protective Behaviours: Preventing Child Sexual Abuse.

Carol discussed the different types of abuse such as: Physical, Emotional, Sexual and Neglect. QLD Health Mental Health spoke about the brain functions and as Parent’s/Carers what we should do to protect our children. Kirsten also provided hygiene packs and books for the kids, it was a fantastic day and a great turnout.

To finish off, activities continued over at the primary school with a BBQ and participated in a few activities like Tug of War, Skittles and a Colour Run. Everyone loved the packs provided by Apunipima: Bags, Hats, Water Bottles and sunnies.

Many thanks to the organisations involved, the day would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts from Apunipima PHC, Coen State School, Coen Regional Aboriginal Corporation, Gungarde Family Wellbeing Centre, QLD Health Mental Health, Coen Kindergarten, Cape York Employment and Coen Justice.
