3 Streams of Governance

As a community-controlled health service, Apunipima is in the unique position of having three (3) overarching governance streams. Having these separate streams ensures community input into decision making, while maintaining accredited clinical service is available to the people of Cape York.

Governance Streams

Corporate Governance

A Board of elected Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Directors who reside in Cape York supported by skills-based Directors, provide the strategic oversight and leadership to enable delivery of comprehensive primary health care services across Cape York.

The Chief Executive Officer, supported by the Senior Management Team, operationalise the strategic direction set by the Board.

Apunipima’s corporate governance system is supported by a governance framework that supports decision-making, provides accountability and ensures compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Clinical Governance

Managed through best practice clinical governance systems that ensures we provide clinically safe care that meets current standards and best practice guidelines. Apunipima focuses on continuous quality improvement to ensure that the health and wellbeing services delivered to Cape York communities are of a high standard and provided in a culturally safe environment.

Community Control

Enabled by our Cape York Directors and led by Apunipima Health Action Teams at community level, Cape York residents have an opportunity to contribute to the planning of services and programs delivered in their communities.  Our Health Action Teams provide advice, guidance, and support to ensure that services are culturally responsive and safe.
