Donna Henning

Donna has spent most of her career engaging in activities bettering the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities both in the Cape and further afield. She has experience in advocating through various channels in matters of native title, education, employment, housing, health and tourism. Donna has been involved with many peak organisations as well as consulting with various Government departments to improve the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Donna has also been a strong advocate for better health services for her own community, Mossman Gorge. Donna says it is a journey that has been long and tiring, and their work is not finished yet. “We have come a long way but there is more to be done. We must keep being creative, in the way we deliver health.”

Donna was appointed Director of Region 5 in November 2022 and represents the communities of Cooktown, Hope Vale, Wujal Wujal, Mossman Gorge and Laura
